Arsenal make a big leap in the transfer of Dusan Vlahovic

Fiorentina have reluctantly accepted their willingness to sell Dusan Vlahovic after Arsenal made a €70m (£58.5m) bid for the striker, according to reports in Italy.

Arsenal are plotting for the future without Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette – whose contracts expired at the end of the season – and Vlasovic emerged as Arsenal’s primary attacking target in January.

The 21-year-old has entered the final 18 months of his contract at Fiorentina and has caught the attention of a handful of Europe’s top clubs thanks to his extraordinary scoring feats in Serie A.

So far, Fiorentina have been hoping Vlasovic will put an end to speculation by putting pen to paper on a new deal, with club president Rocco Commisso warning he would not ‘cheat the players’ earlier this week.

However, Italian publication La Repubblica claims Commisso is now “ready to let the player go”, with “the Serb’s future moving away from Florence”.

It is understood that Vlahovic’s representatives are demanding €8m (£6.6m) for a renewal across the line at Fiorentina plus 10 per cent of any potential transfer fees.

Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Real Sociedad’s Alexander Isak have also been linked with Arsenal this winter, but the club appears to be dealing with Vlahovic and a deal appears to be possible.

Speaking on Optus Sport, Ian Wright encouraged Arsenal to seal a deal for Vlahovic and suggested things could “start” if the club had a productive January transfer window.

“Arsenal have done a great job so far,” Wright said on The Kelly and Wrighty Show.

I think they need to get another striker, even if everything can be settled with Aubameyang.

“I hear Vlahovic from Fiorentina. We need that player who can be between Lacazette and Aubameyang.

I don’t know what’s going on with Laka, I’d love for him to stay, I don’t know what’s going on with him, we don’t know what’s going on with Aubameyang.

“But if we can get this striker, that hard-working striker who is good at genetic play and is good at finishing the game – which Vlahovic does – then you think that’s starting to happen now with Arsenal.”

Meanwhile, former Arsenal full-back Nigel Winterburn believes Dusan Vlahovic could be an “interesting signing” given the young striker “could offer something different” from Arteta’s current options.

“We are linked with a lot of young strikers but I like Fiorentina’s Vlahovic because it seems like he can do something different,” Winterburn told Buddy Power.

He scored all kinds of goals. He shoots penalty kicks and shoots from close range and from the edge of the penalty area. It is left-handed and looks sturdy and robust.

“It looks like there’s been a big push from Arsenal and it’s the only name that keeps coming up.

It will be interesting to see how that develops, but like everything, if he comes to Arsenal, I’m only interested in what he does when he is at our football club. It would be an interesting signature.
