Johnson today defended himself in the British Parliament for his actions. It was about a “social glass at a distance”, to which a hundred people were invited. At the time, the British were not allowed to meet more than one person outside of their home. The opposition and some members of his own Tory party have said Johnson should step down if he is found to have violated strict corona measures.

,,I want to apologize. I know millions of people in this country have had to make extraordinary sacrifices over the past 18 months, “Johnson said.” I walked into this garden just after 6 a.m. on May 20, 2020 to thank groups of ’employees, before returning to my office 25 minutes later to resume work, “he explained.” With the knowledge of now, I should have said: everyone come in. ”

To resign?

Keir Starmer, the leader of the UK opposition Labor Party, has told Johnson he should step down. The party is over, Prime Minister. The only question is, will the British public fire him? Does his own party fire him? Or does he do the right thing and resign himself? Starmer asked Johnson.

Johnson has hinted he has no plans to do the latter yet. “I thought it was a professional event and (…) I’m sorry we didn’t do things differently,” he repeated in response to Starmer. “I take my responsibilities and I apologize. But on this political point: I think he should wait for the outcome of the investigation. He referred to the ongoing investigation into possible illegal gatherings of employees of the government during the lockdown.

The scandal surrounding several corona parties is now called the “party door”. Johnson has survived multiple scandals and missteps, including corruption allegations, since becoming Prime Minister of the United Kingdom in July 2019. He is also battling a rebellion within the Tories over his corona policy. Recently there has also been the loss of a Tory stronghold in by-elections and the resignation of Brexit Minister Frost amid dissatisfaction with government policy.
