Blackburn Rovers kept the pressure on the teams at the top of the tournament as they beat Cardiff 1-0 with ten men.
Joe Rothwell gave Blackburn the lead as he broke through the Cardiff defense and finished outside the box.
Cardiff improved after the break and the visitors saw Ryan Nyambe sent off 14 minutes from the end of the match after receiving a second yellow card.
However, the Rovers held out when Cardiff was beaten at home once more.
The Bluebirds have lost eight of their last nine league games at home, while taking fewer home points overall this season than any other team in the tournament, with just seven.
The defeat means Cardiff remains 20th in the championship, while Rovers are second with 49 points.
The Bluebirds’ mission was not helped by the fact that this was the second game in a row that they were forced to play behind closed doors due to Welsh government Covid-19 restrictions, but Welsh clubs will be able to. Welcome back to backers from next weekend.

Blackburn took the lead six minutes later in the 14th minute when Cardiff hit his heels when Reda Khadra found Rothwell who shot forward before firing into the bottom corner of the net from 20 yards.
Set-pieces seemed the best route for Cardiff to equalise, but Eden Flint headed straight for Thomas Kaminski from Joe Ralls’ superb delivery. Ralls has assisted with five goals in his last seven league games, which equates to a previously combined 48 goals.
Cardiff forced Kaminski to the rescue again as Perry Ng fired from just outside the box, but Rovers had a good level of control and John Buckley’s 25-yard shot tested Alex Smithies before the first half.
Since the 7-0 defeat at home to Fulham in November, Blackburn have conceded just three goals in nine matches in the tournament, the fewest of any team in the entire division at this time, and their defensive strength was evident as Cardiff looked for an equaliser.
Nelson’s powerful header forced Kaminsky to pare it in the 68th minute when he cleared the ball away, but it was Nyambe’s red card in a second yellow card with 14 minutes remaining that gave Cardiff real hope of an equaliser.
However, Rovers held steady with some resolute defense as Cardiff were again defeated at home in a poor affair with 12 yellow cards issued.
