Chelsea still has a lot of work to do to convince star defender Antonio Rudiger to stay at the club beyond the current season, according to the journalist. Dean Jones.
The highly-rated 28-year-old has entered the final six months of his contract with the capital club and has yet to agree the terms of a new deal, opening up the possibility of him leaving on a free transfer in the summer.
What is the latest news regarding Rudiger?
Rudiger has established himself as one of the Premier League’s leading midfielders since arriving at Stamford Bridge from Roma in 2017.
In 177 games for Chelsea, the 49-game Germany international scored 10 goals and provided seven more assists, winning the Champions League, FA Cup and Europa League along the way.
However, Rudiger’s future is now in doubt after he rejected the Blues’ initial offer of around £140,000-a-week.
According to a respected reporter and transportation expert Fabrizio Romano, the 6-foot-2 monster is wanted by Spanish giants Real Madrid as a free agent, while his salary requirements led Bayern Munich to withdraw from the race for his signature.

Despite this, The Telegraph has claimed that Chelsea are expected to make a renewed bid to keep Rudiger at the club beyond this season, with the player poised to put pen to paper on new terms.
The report states that the leading defender will demand a wage of £200,000 a week, a fee the European champions may come close to matching.
What did Jones say about Rudiger?
Although Chelsea are still hoping to tie up Rudiger with a new deal, there are fears he may still be tempted to leave due to the lure of bumper check-in fees elsewhere.

Jones revealed that Thomas Tuchel’s accusations are still some way off from extending his contract.
He told GiveMeSport: “I know there’s a lot of positive noise on the Chelsea side of things on Rudiger but they still have a lot of work to do to convince him to stay, from what I hear on the other side of things.”
Will Rudiger be a big loss against Chelsea?
Rudiger has started 20 of Chelsea’s 21 Premier League games so far, highlighting just how far Tuchel has risen in the centre-back that is his number one choice.
And it’s easy to understand why when you take a closer look at its key numbers.
According to WhoScored, Rudiger won 2.1 aerial duels, made 2.4 clearances and 4.5 long balls per league game throughout 2021/22, placing him in the top five among his teammates per metric.
Therefore, his potential departure could be a huge blow to Chelsea’s progress under Tuchel, and the German tactician is sure to be desperate to keep his compatriot.
