This blind date went differently than expected: A woman from Zhengzhou, China was invited to her apartment when the area had to be locked down due to Corona. Then she stayed with him – and kept a video diary.

With videos of what she claims to be an unwittingly extended date, a woman in China has sparked great interest on social media. The corona lockdown which was suddenly imposed on parts of the Chinese metropolis of Zhengzhou a week ago put the woman in an awkward position when looking for a partner: she had just been invited to dinner at her apartment by a blind date when the neighborhood was cordoned off – and she had been sitting with him ever since, the woman reported to Shanghai newspaper The Paper.

The woman said she had returned to her hometown of Zhengzhou from Guangzhou City, some 1,000 kilometers away, to meet with several men at her family’s request. “I’m getting old, my family introduced me to ten friends,” they wanted to see one after the other, she told “The Paper”. She had just invited her fifth date at his house to show off her cooking skills when the lockdown went into effect. The woman has been stuck in the apartment since January 9.

Wang is not very enthusiastic about her blind date

Since then, Wang has shown her involuntary daily life with her date in short online videos. Images released by local media show the man cooking for her, doing household chores and working on her laptop while she sleeps. How long she was to stay there was unclear. The woman has posted the latest video yet, which showed them both having a hot meal on Wednesday.

Despite the closeness and plenty of time to talk, there was apparently no spark between the two. Their date is as “silly as a wooden dummy” and the food he has prepared is mediocre, Wang reported. Other than that, it has a lot of good sides. She also thinks it’s “great that he’s always ready to cook.” But in fact, she would like a more talkative partner. The man himself had no say in the videos.

Millions of users searched for the videos on Twitter-like short message service Weibo. In vain, as Wang explained. She deleted them all after noticing that her unwitting roommate didn’t understand her friends’ reactions.

China has a strict zero corona policy. Entire cities with a population of over one million have been sent into full lockdown multiple times due to individual cases of corona.
