David Moyes: Jarrod Bowen, Declan Rice, Premier League, transfer targets, Leeds United delays and COVID

David Moyes He was speaking to the visual media ahead of Sunday’s Premier League match between his team West Ham United and Leeds United at the London Stadium.

The Hammers host the white team of Marcelo Bielsa for the second time in eight days, after they beat Yorkshire 2-0 at the London Stadium in the third round of the Emirates FA Cup last weekend, and also won 2-1 in the first division match in Island. Road in September last year.

Moyes has tasted victory in all four games against Leeds since Sunday’s visitor’s return to the Premier League at the start of last season, but he expects another stern test from high-octane side Bielsa this weekend.

The manager was also asked how he evaluated his team’s performance so far in 2021/202, to comment on the shape of Jarrod Bowen and Declan Rice, and to give his views on the continuing impact of COVID-related delays on the integrity of the competition. .

That’s what he should have said…

I was really happy with the players’ performance.

Sure, in the last few weeks we’ve gotten a little closer to where we were earlier in the season, and that could go on for a long time.

When I think about how well we did in pre-season and how well we started and feel about the season [is why I’m not surprised how well we’ve done so far this season].

We brought in Declan Rice and Thomas Suchek from the Eurozone and were full on them when they came back, so it gave us a real chance to start the season well and we did.

We’ve been feeling that a little bit, and one or two injuries recently has made our shape swing a bit and I still think we’re trying to find our best level again, but we’re getting close to it and hopefully it continues.

I think the key to Jarrod Bowen’s level this season has been more used to being a player in the Premier League.

When we took him off Hull he settled very well, but I think it’s the right time and I got a chance to play regularly at that level, and I think he’s maturing.

He’s been getting some goals lately, and we want him to keep adding to them. He’s definitely had assists this year, so he’s been involved in a lot of the good things we’ve done.

But we’re always looking for more and always pushing and demanding more of him and I think he can improve again and can advance again, so let’s hope that shows in the second half of the season.

He’s doing really well at the moment for a team that is doing well in the Premier League and I hope he finds himself somewhere along the line being talked about for England recognition, but I’ve said many times that the competition for that position England is really strong, so he’s going to need to keep playing. Well, keep scoring goals, getting help to keep his name in the limelight, really.

Jarrod hasn’t talked about his England hopes, but we’d be glad if it happened for him.

But at the same time, his first job was to play well for West Ham and I’m more interested in how he plays with West Ham and that he continues at that level and keeps improving.

He’s a really good team player, which we love about him too, and all those other aspects of his game should be there for him to join the West Ham squad, first and foremost.

I think we’ve been through this [situation with COVID and matches being postponed and rearranged] For a while now we all know it’s been a tough time.

All football clubs have to deal with COVID and we want to know what the numbers will be [for each club to have postponement requests granted]But the Premier League has that and we have to trust that they are doing things right.

Problems come with it [when clubs who do not ask for postponements have matches rearranged at inconvenient times]But the Premier League has to do what’s right, they see one of the teams has COVID [cases] And we have to follow that.

We’ve already had the situation once this season with the Norwich game, but it could happen to us, so I might need to call the Premier League one day and say ‘We don’t have enough players and we’re struggling to get a team out’, so if someone else gets it We have to believe that the Premier League is doing the right thing and proving that all the numbers are correct.

David Moyes

I’d like to bring in some new faces if I can and would like to add them to the collection I have.

We’ll try and do it as best we can but right now the people we look up to and the people we want to have are either not available or we can’t have them.

We’ll keep looking and just see what we can get from now until the end of the window.

I think West Ham is an attractive club to join – certainly more attractive now than we have been for a long time, and we need to continue that.

I’m really keen to add to it if we can. The board is with me and they want to add as well and they are very supportive, but it’s about identifying the right players that we want to try to bring here and move forward with the rest of the journey with us.

We’ll keep looking and hopefully something comes up for us in the next couple of weeks.

I think Leeds will be fine and we expect a player or two back by the time we play as well.

Look, Leeds is a really good team and it’s really hard to play against and they’ve shown it over the last couple of years.

Everyone loves watching them and everyone knows about their energy and the way they play, that makes it really difficult to play against them and we’ve had some really tough matches against them over the past year or so.

David Moyes and Declan Rice

I’ve been here twice and the first time Declan Rice was a little boy playing in the middle of the field most of the time.

Since my return, he has already developed into a midfielder, but I think in the last couple of years he has stepped up.

He’s solidified his drive, stepped up his game and I think everyone will see him as an England player right now.

Two years ago he was developing into an England player, but I think you won’t be recognized as a national team if you don’t play well with your team, and Declan has played well with West Ham.

I think he can keep going and has a lot of details in his game that he can add to. We are with him all the time to keep improving and continue to lead the team and show the leadership qualities he already had for a young man but will improve with age as well.
