Emiliano Buendia has denied suggestions that he and Philippe Coutinho cannot play together at Aston Villa and revealed that he is looking forward to a link with the Brazilian.
Coutinho has completed a loan deal at Villa from Barcelona for the rest of the season this week, and could be replaced with the Midlands side against Manchester United in the Premier League on Saturday.
The 29-year-old’s profile as an attacking midfielder who can play on a large scale has created allegations that Coutinho will rival Buendia as a £40m summer player for a springboard in Steven Gerrard’s side.

But Buendia praised Coutinho’s “quality” and admits he is looking forward to learning from the Brazil international.
“Of course, the best big player,” Buendia told Sky Sports when asked about Coutinho. He has shown his quality throughout his career – he was the best player in Liverpool.
He has shown what he can do in this league. He can add a lot of quality to the team and matches, so it’s a really good opportunity for everyone here to play with him.
Buendia says he is looking forward to learning from Coutinho even though he plays the same role
“Obviously we are similar players, we like creativity and dribbling – but we can play together with our team’s style and formation. We are quite flexible to play in different roles and positions.
“So yeah, we can play together and I hope so, because I’m learning a lot from a player like him.”
The next few months will be crucial for Buendia, who is looking to book a place in Argentina’s squad for the World Cup at the end of the year.

The 25-year-old has yet to miss an international cap but has received several call-ups – and is enjoying the opportunity to play alongside Lionel Messi in a major tournament.
“Of course I want the opportunity to play in the national team with players like Messi – for me, he is the best player in the world,” Buendia added. I trained with him twice when I was with the national team.
But I’m really looking forward to participating again. It’s a great year because we’re having the World Cup, and I’m working hard to do my best at the club and after that, I hope to have another chance with Argentina.”
