Following the discovery of the Omikron variant and the associated new corona wave around the world, many countries have tightened the entry rules. Now, under stricter rules, it will no longer be enough to show proof of cure or a negative test everywhere. According to a report by “Welt”, 15 countries have so far introduced the so-called 1G regulation, according to which only tourists fully vaccinated against Covid-19 are allowed to enter. In addition to this, a negative test is often required.
There are many internationally popular vacation destinations among 1G travel destinations. Here we summarize for you which countries it is and what you now need to pay attention to where.
Vaccinated tourists have been officially allowed to return to the United States since November 8, 2021. As of early December, all travelers aged two and over are also required to be tested. The negative Covid test must not be older than 24 hours upon departure. Those who have recovered must present a corresponding medical certificate and are only allowed to enter the country if they are fully immunized.
From January 15, 2022, stricter rules will apply to Kanda. According to the Foreign Ministry, all immigrants without exception must then be fully vaccinated. In addition, all travelers from the age of five must have a negative PCR test result ready at the border inspection post, which must not be older than 72 hours upon departure. Registration of the ArriveCAN application is also mandatory for everyone.
From February 8, 2022, a vaccination will also apply to adult tourists to Costa Rica. In general, access to hotels, cinemas, restaurants, national parks and other facilities is then only allowed to vaccinated people. Until the virtual lockdown for unvaccinated people is introduced, owners are still free to choose whether to allow only vaccinated people or also unvaccinated people – but only when occupancy is low. by 50%. Anyone entering the country is also required to complete an online health form and, if the vaccination is complete, they will be given a QR code that will serve as proof of vaccination in the Central American country.
The 1G plus rule has also been in effect on the communist Caribbean island since January 5, 2022. Participants must show proof of vaccination and a negative PCR test dated within 72 hours. Children under the age of twelve are exempt from this rule. In addition, all tourists must register at the entrance.
Since December 14, 2021, adults must provide proof of a Covid-19 vaccination certificate (at least two vaccinations). If vaccination is incomplete, a negative PCR test should also be presented, which should not be older than 72 hours. Travelers arriving by cruise ship must also present a negative PCR test no older than 72 hours upon departure.
Without a vaccination certificate and negative PCR test, which is no more than 72 hours old, nothing works in Ecuador. As of December 1, the 1G-Plus rule has also been in effect in the South American country for all travelers over the age of 16. Tourists are only allowed to enter the country by air and everyone must complete a digital health declaration prior to departure.
Since mid-December, proof of full vaccination is also mandatory for all travelers over the age of twelve entering Brazil. A negative test result and a completed online health declaration are also required. Cruise tourists – regardless of their vaccination status – are generally not allowed to enter the country at this time.
Argentina kept its borders closed until October, but as of November 1, 2021, tourists with a full vaccination and negative PCR test (no more than 72 hours) are officially allowed to return to the country on vacation. In addition, the government requires an affidavit for symptom-free and travel insurance. Holidaymakers over the age of six must take an additional PCR test between the third and fifth day after entering the country, according to the Foreign Ministry. Until then, tourists are excluded from major events and events in closed rooms.
Since January 12, visitors from the age of 18 must prove a full vaccination against Covid-19 and a negative corona test to enter Paraguay. Children under the age of twelve are exempt from this rule.
According to the Federal Foreign Office, the African country is a high-risk area and is severely affected by the pandemic. Entry to Kenya is therefore only permitted for travelers over five years of age with a negative PCR test dating back less than 72 hours. In addition, all immigrants over the age of 18 must present proof of full vaccine protection, which can be read via a QR code and, like the PCR test, must be uploaded to the “Global Heaven” certification website. Tunisia is also taking tougher measures. Only fully vaccinated people are allowed to enter the country. Any exceptional regulations, such as those for package tourists, are thus repealed. Additionally, travelers must prove a negative PCR test with a QR code, which may have been performed up to 48 hours ago. For children from six years old, there is only one compulsory test.
Anyone wishing to enter Oman needs proof of vaccination and must register online beforehand. Children under 18 are exempt from the obligation to provide proof of vaccination. Quarantine is only required if there is no negative PCR test dated 72 hours or less. The Foreign Ministry reports that Omani police strictly monitor compliance with hygiene rules, such as wearing a mask, and penalize violations. Please note: even the handshake is prohibited.
Fully vaccinated people from Germany can enter Singapore via the Vaccinated Travel Lane (VTL). For this purpose, a “Vaccinated Travel Pass” must be requested in advance via the Safe Travel website. Another entry requirement is, in addition to the full vaccination in Singapore or another country for which the VTL procedure applies, a negative rapid test or PCR test before starting the trip. In addition, passengers must take a direct “VTL” flight, accessible only to vaccinated persons, and perform another PCR test on arrival. Travel health insurance and use of the “Trace Together” application are also compulsory. According to Lufthansa, however, Singapore has suspended new bookings of VTL tickets until January 20, 2022.
Since January 1, 2022, Southeast Asian Laos has been partially opened to visitors from 17 countries, including Germany. Fully vaccinated group travelers have been allowed to travel to Vientiane, Vang Vieng, and Luang Prabang since the start of the year. In addition to the compulsory vaccination certificate, visitors must present a negative PCR test dated within 72 hours, as well as proof of travel health insurance covering at least US $ 50,000. Kosovo is the only country in Europe to have introduced the 1G regulation. The general obligation to provide proof of vaccination applies to all immigrants – including those who have recovered – from the age of 12. According to the Foreign Office, a simple vaccination with the vaccine from the manufacturer Johnson & Johnson is not recognized by local authorities.
