Humberside Summer Jersey Service Expanded as Confidence Returns to Travel

Eastern Airways has built additional capacity into its summer service to Jersey from Humberside as it expects strong domestic tourism to continue well into 2022.

The weekly Saturday flights start again on May 21 and continue until the end of September.

Eastern brought back its connection to the Channel Islands last year with CI Travel Group and Premier Holidays, previously operated by Flybe and then by Loganair.

In a slightly extended season, nearly 2,600 seats will be offered, up from 2,160 in 2021, with the domestic airline risking a 72-seat ATR 72-600.

Pre-Covid it was run on 49 seats, with 1,470 seats, meaning this summer will see a 76 percent increase.

Adam Wheatley, Eastern Airways managing director, said: “Given the growth of UK residence in the UK, it remains the focus for many in 2022; we are extending the length of the business season in conjunction with our primary partners CI Travel Group and Premier Holidays.

“With passenger confidence building again, we want to ensure that the right services are provided as Eastern Airways is all about supporting the regions of the UK, connecting people and places, so Jersey’s growing capacity will provide a welcome British holiday destination from Humberside.

“Given recent new network additions such as Newquay of London-Gatwick adding to Leeds-Bradford, restoring and adding services at hubs we already serve is another critical part of increasing connectivity and aiding economic recovery, where this sustainable.”

Eastern was the only airline to operate continuously from Humberside Airport during the pandemic, with Aberdeen service being one of the few on the network considered essential to support essential workers.

The return was welcomed by Deborah Zost, director of the Kirmington site. She said: “As travel restrictions ease and customer confidence grows, it is fantastic news for the region that Eastern Airways will continue the now established service from Humberside.

“We are confident that our customers will welcome the opportunity to once again enjoy the beautiful island of Jersey and all it has to offer, with the convenience of travel from their local airport – further supporting the local and UK economies.”

Robert Mackenzie, director of CI Travel Group said bookings in the first two weeks of January suggest demand will be stronger than in many years as confidence returns.
