Liverpool are preparing a £33.4m bid for Leeds United player Calvin Phillips, although the white team could get the advantage if they act on Real Madrid’s “mania”, in a report.
The 26-year-old remains the most important player in Marcelo Bielsa’s system at Island Road. Phillips sets the tone in the engine room and allows those around him to thrive and capture the praise.
However, this type of midfielder is exactly the type of player Jurgen Klopp often targets in Liverpool’s midfield.
According to Spanish port El NacionalThe Reds are preparing to test the waters along €40m bid (£33.4m).
Phillips has stated that he is “considering changing his mind” regarding his long-term future at his boyhood club. Dubbed a “big fan” of Phillips, Klopp is duly preparing to “attack” with Phillips set to revamp his midfield.
Calvin Phillips “seduced”, but Leeds will stand firm
However, the report claims that “all indications are” that Leeds will turn down an offer – if one does indeed arrive.
However, they said Phillips was “fond” of the idea of playing at Anfield. But as expected, Leeds are said to prefer selling to a foreign team if forced to sell, and that’s where Real Madrid come in.
Los Blancos president Carlo Ancelotti has been a huge fan of Philips since his time at Everton. According to their words, Phillips’ signature is one of Ancelotti’s “obsessions”.
Phillips is reportedly seen as the perfect successor to Casemiro in midfield. However, at the moment, there are no plans in place for Real Madrid to act on their manager’s admiration for the Leeds star.
Manchester United transfer news: Are Rice, Halland and Zakaria better than Rangnick already have?
Carragher compares Rangnick with disastrous Liverpool coach
Meanwhile, Jamie Carragher believes Manchester United under Ralph Rangnick are like Liverpool during Roy Hodgson’s short-lived rule.
“What United fans might worry about now is when they watch their team over the past few weeks, they remind me of Roy Hodgson’s Liverpool,” Carragher wrote in column for telegraph.
“There is nothing about them. No emotion, no emotion. Every game looks flat. They lack energy and fluidity. Players are clearly not enjoying football.
“There is a very respected personality in football, but it took weeks to make it clear that Ralf Rangnick is not a fit for that team and will not be on the touchline at the start of next season.”
In fact, Rangnick is only a temporary option for the Red Devils as they search for a long-term successor to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
But in addition to Rangnick, United’s players have been criticized for their body language under the coach.
Marcus Rashford was criticized after winning the FA Cup against Aston Villa. Meanwhile, Gary Neville recently described it Cristiano Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes ‘Evil Lies’.
