Rare early symptom identified – also in Germans

During the pandemic, scientists and doctors are learning more and more about the clinical picture of Covid-19. Some infected people also have atypical symptoms at an early stage, which are often not attributed to the viral illness. One of them can be sudden fainting, also called syncope.

As ‘√Ąrztezeitung’ reports, there are a growing number of cases in which patients with fainting attacks test positive for SARS-CoV-2. The case of a 35-year-old man who was treated for recurrent syncope in the emergency room of a Berlin hospital has recently become known. Doctors found nothing – except for a positive corona test result.

In syncope, familiarly Weak or circulatory collapse, the brain is briefly supplied with adequate oxygen and loss of consciousness occurs. The depth and duration of unconsciousness can vary, but most people can be treated again quickly. Dizziness, nausea, and visual disturbances are also typical symptoms.

Study: fainting in about four percent of corona patients
