Tennis star Emma Radocano hits back at criticism that she’s ‘distracted’ in new Nike ad

Emma Raducano has responded to criticism that she is being “distracted” with lucrative out-of-court endorsement deals in a new ad for Nike.

The tennis star, who lives in Kent, experienced a rapid rise to the top celebrity status after winning the US Open in September and has since been invited to be an ambassador for a host of luxury brands.

But she faced criticism from Eddie Jones in November, saying: “The important thing for good young players is distraction. There’s a reason the girl who won the US Open didn’t do well after that.

“What did you see her on the front page of Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar or whatever, dressed as Christian Dior.”

In the ad, which Emma shared on her Instagram page, she can be seen racing across a stadium emblazoned with the words ‘Luck’, ‘One great hit’ and ‘Distracted’.

The tennis player shared the announcement days after suffering a shocking defeat in her first match of 2022, winning just one match against Elena Rybakina, less than a week before the Australian Open kicks off.

Since his victory in September, the teen has announced deals with:

Tiffany & Co. The brand ambassador in the deal is said to be worth £2 million

Days later she found herself among the elite A-list at the Met Gala in New York – fashion’s biggest night out.

She stepped out to the occasion in a monochromatic diaphragm Chanel costume, complete with pearls draping her waist and Tiffany diamonds in her ears.

Invited personally by Vogue president Anna Wintour, she sat at the $500,000 Chanel table with her celebrity ambassadors — fueling speculation that she would join their ranks as an ambassador.

Meanwhile, the teenager was then revealed as the face of jewelry brand Tiffany and Co in a deal valued at more than £2 million.

And in October, she became the last celebrity to be announced as an ambassador for couture house Dior.

It is not known how much Emma will pay for her role as an ambassador for Dior.

She has since struck deals with Evian and appeared as the face of Sports Direct’s Christmas campaign for 2021.

The tennis star has been heralded as a “shepherd’s dream,” and is on her way to becoming the highest-earning sports star of all time.

It has also been reported that she has laid the foundation for her 17-year-old potential earnings, and registered Harbor 6 Limited to manage her finances.

However, Emma’s debut this year resulted in such a short-lived surprise that she headed straight to the Courts of Practice afterwards.

It was quite clear how many gaps Radocano would have to fill in her match as she lost 6-0 6-1 in just 55 minutes to world number 13 Elena Rybakina of Kazakhstan, at the Sydney Tennis Classic earlier this week.

Based on this evidence, Radocano can’t be expected to survive the first week in Melbourne Park – although, as a seed, she won’t meet someone of this caliber in the opening rounds of the tournament.

Emma has also cemented her status as a household name as she was revealed to be facing Sports Direct's Christmas campaign earlier this month.
