Talks about an extension have been going on for some time – but reaching an agreement has proven difficult. Reports indicate that Salah wants a deal worth around £400,000 per week. And while Liverpool are willing to negotiate a salary increase, they simply won’t go that high.

Liverpool is not publicly challenging Salah over his demands. However, behind the scenes, it is hinted that they fear the worst.

Salah recently spoke about his contractual encounter with Liverpool, claiming that he “doesn’t ask for crazy things”.

He said, “I want to stay, but this is not in my hands.” GQ. “It’s in their hands. They know what I want. I don’t ask for crazy things. The thing is when you ask for something and they show you that they can give you something.”

“I’m here for the fifth year now. I know the club well. I love the fans. The fans love me. But with the management, (they were told) the situation. It’s in their hands.”

Meanwhile, Jurgen Klopp has made it clear that he wants Salah to stay.

“We know, I know, Mo wants to stay, we want Mo to stay. That’s the point where we’re at and these things take time, and I can’t change them. Sorry. But I think everything is in a good place. Nothing else to say,” he said.

“I’m very positive about this but I don’t think it makes sense to speak on behalf of the fans because I’m sure the fans are not as nervous as you.

“They’ve known the club for a long time and they’ve known the people here who deal with different things for a very long time, so I think there are enough reasons to be positive but as long as it’s not, we can’t say anything about it.

“But, good conversations – that’s what I can say.”
