Manchester United will have to make at least two changes for the second part of their double-header with Aston Villa – and there could be more.
After the winner scored against the same contenders in the FA Cup on Monday night, Scott McTominay is set to miss due to suspension at Villa Park this afternoon (5.30pm).
Lok Shu is also forbidden.
There’s better news for United in terms of injury, though, after Ralph Rangnick confirmed a four-way boost in Phil Jones, Harry Maguire, Jadon Sancho and five-time Ballon d’Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo all passed in decent form.
Here is the beginning xi it Manchester Evening News Readers chose to face Villa;
Goalkeeper – David de Gea
Perhaps the easiest decision Rangnick has to make now. Dean Henderson is an outstanding goalkeeper in his own right, and last season, he managed to unseat the long-serving Spaniard. Simply put, though, David de Gea has since put himself in a position that cannot be dropped and has been a rare bright light this season.
Defenders – Diogo Dalot, Raphael Varane, Harry Maguire, Alex Telles
Suspended England international Alex Telles is one of United’s mandatory changes to fourth-placed defence.
However, with Jones and Victor Lindelof both available, it should not be a guarantee that United captain Maguire and his £34m summer partner Raphael Varane will return to the squad.
You would expect Rangnick to go that route, and most fans seem to agree with the Germans.
Diogo Dalot sustained a war injury during the FA Cup match on Monday night, but continues to beat Aaron Wan-Bissaka when it comes to public opinion.
Midfielders – Donny van de Beek, Fred, Bruno Fernandes
Donny van de Beek has been restricted to just 67 minutes in the Premier League this season and hasn’t changed much during his time as a United player, but could this afternoon provide him with a major opportunity?
McTominay is discontinued, and realistically his biggest challenge initially comes from Nemanja Matic.
Needless to say, United fans are urging Rangnick to pick the most attacking option out there and let Van de Beek off the leash alongside Bruno Fernandes.
Could this be the combination that gets the team firing again at Villa Park?
Forwards – Jadon Sancho, Cristiano Ronaldo, Marcus Rashford
Ronaldo is back from a minor problem and will start for United against Villa. Sure?
Having scored 14 goals in 21 appearances since re-signing with the club this summer, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner was living up to his share of the deal.
Despite their struggles, Sancho and Marcus Rashford were chosen by fans to support him.
This leaves Mason Greenwood and Edinson Cavani waiting in the wings for their chance, and in terms of formation, United will see their form in a different 4-3-3 form.
